Autumn 2016 — Quarry Begins Major Road Improvements

Where the streets are paved with Marble.

Heard of the Yellow Brick Road? Introducing the White Marble Road. Colorado Stone Quarries (Yule Quarry) rented a crusher this fall to produce road topping from their marble rock scraps. According to workers, while some of the marble becomes a gravel, much of it “explodes” into a sand-like fine. The plan is to grade and compact what appears to be about a 6-inch lift of this mixed gravel and sand material (similar to conventional road base), then “brine” it with a salt solution that reacts with the marble to tighten it up. Interesting! As an alternative to asphalt, clean.

We do wonder how the light colored surface will behaving in icing conditions this coming winter. Will it reflect sun and ice less? Or reflect sun and stay icy instead of drying?

Winter Winds Down — But We Still Have Spring Skiing

Terrain off Quarry road will yield corn snow skiing for a few weeks yet, and perhaps some late season powder. Later April and into May you’ll probably need to hike up into Yule Creek or ski on Treasure mountain. Also, don’t forget the Elk Mountains, accessed from Leadking road. See BackcountrySkiingCO.com

Webcam Working Again

Took a while. Use menu above for access. Enjoy.

What’s Going On Here at Marbleski

Hey everyone, lots of things happening. We had a server meltdown, began a new account with a different company and we’re in the process of moving everything and rebuilding the webcam system (the server side stuff got deleted). Also, Google decided to discontinue their mapping tool we used to display a map (see menu above) so we’re stuck for now with simply providing a download of a Google Earth KML file.

That’s it. We’re working on everything as well as enjoying the excellent winter we’re having.
